Getting an FTP client and setting it up with our server

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a means of transferring files between your home computer and our server. Such files may include HTML and CSS documents, images and other multimedia. It requires you to install software on your computer to connect to the server. There are a number of commercial and free products that can allow you to do this but we recommend using FileZilla or SmartFTP on Windows, Cyberduck on Mac OS X and FileZilla on Linux.

Once you have downloaded the software, install it and then enter the specific details that you were given in the New Account Information email.

Server: username.livehost.org.uk
Port (if asked): 21
Username: [Your account username for cPanel/separate FTP account that you have set up in cPanel]
Password: [Your password for the account]
Also ensure that your FTP client is using the "passive" FTP mode

We recommend leaving the rest of the settings at their default values.
